I found the shiny children of East Africa to be more memorable than the stunning mountains, sunsets, and animals of this magical land. The sheer joy they radiate carried me though the difficult times that followed the Rwandan Genocide of 1994. I took the first picture in this slide show of young boys at Lake Kivu in the refuge camp located in the town of Gisenyi. Just months before that same placid lake where I was teaching them to swim was filled with the bodies of people killed during the madness. To this day I thank the spirit in those children for beaming their joy to all.

      Pictures from Uganda were taken in a small town in Eastern Uganda located at the base of Mt. Elgon, and also on an island in a lake near Kabale. Pictures from Kenya include the Kakamega Rain Forest and the Masai Mara National Park. All of the photographs in this slide show and in InnerGardenArt.com were taken with my Canon AE-1.
